Pablo Picasso:  Guernica masterpiece or The weeping Women (Spanish Civil War)

Students will learn about Pablo Picasso’s life and work, exploring the artist’s periods and his revolutionary methods. With the help of our expert  Spanish Visual Artists students will then make the masterpiece “Guernica” themselves.

Through the creation of this amazing masterpiece, students have the opportunity to further develop their understanding of Spanish Civil War:  Historical context and political culture as sub-theme in the Spanish language UK curriculum.

The activity consists of creating a group version of the Guernica painting divided into sections. Each student will experiment with a range of techniques such painting, drawing, writing and collage in order to create a personal version of the masterpiece.

We absolute loved the workshop! Gloria was fantastic. She was friendly and resourceful. She gave us a really good, concise and illustrative introduction to Picasso, his life, his art and that led to discovering aspects of Cubism that properly led us to creating our own pieces, Picasso-style. I will definitely recommend you with my colleagues in other departments and also in partner schools. Thank you so much for bringing such amazing workshop to our school and hope to enjoy another one in the near future.

“The Picasso workshop was fantastic. Gloria (visual artist) was able to present such a complex artist in such a way that all students were engaged and enjoying the event. If I had to give both Maria and Gloria a score from 1 to 10, I would give them 11, because the proved to be very serious and committed professionals, with sheer passion for their fields and, the most important thing, sheer passion for Spain and Spanish culture. Presentation was excellent, as it kept the students on task and focused.”
